Burnt Bridge Classic gravel fondo coming to Cowichan in May
A new series of bike races has come to Vancouver Island. The Mosaic Gravel Series is the brainchild of Jon Watkins of Panache Cycling Sports, a former elite cyclist racer who turned his attention to hosting various races, including the Robert Cameron Law Cycling Series and the Canadian National Masters Cycling Championships. “After the success he had starting and building the Burnt Bridge Classic in Duncan over the past five years, Jon has since expanded to a Nanaimo (Nanaimo Unpaved) event and, for the first time in 2024, the Campbell River event,” said Trevor Dalton of...… A new series of bike races has come to Vancouver Island. For Harmony Johnson, changing the name of the community she is from – which currently reflects a man whose main goal was to...…Powell River’s name currently reflect a man whose main goal was to assimilate Indigenous people It was first in May 2021 that the idea for Powell River to change its name was brought forward to city officials in the coastal B.C. community. Mary Lowther column: How will you mark World Naked Gardening Day?
By Mary Lowther While most of us observe the arrival of spring by pulling out our gardening clothes there are some who believe we should be taking them off! Crew prevail during soggy Cowichan Women’s Football League week 5
The Crew continued their winning ways in one of just two CWFL games this past weekend at McAdam Park. Against the Law in a wet and slippery game, Taylor Hendricks rallied for 19 points and two sacks while Janelle Mould put up 12 points and an interception for the winners, who took the contest 34-12 despite the best efforts of the Megan Newton along with Brin Piper, who were two of three outstanding players for the Law. Law quarterback Jaimie Olson led the team. “Her run threat gave the game its excitement as she seemed at times to run and move the ball at will,” the CWFL’s Chris...… The Crew continued their winning ways in one of just two CWFL games this past weekend at McAdam Park.
