Fall is in the air, and I’m trying my best to hold onto it for as long as I can; meteorologists keep saying that we’re going to have a long Winter which means any day now we can expect Fall to be over and Winter to begin. One of my favorite things to do when the air turns crisp is to bake and to cook. My Grandma Sugar’s apple pie is a must!
I was lucky enough to score some free apples from one of the ladies at work and knew immediately that I would be making my grandmother’s pie recipe. This recipe means so much to me; it’s a reminder of so many fond memories while growing up. We would often go over to Grandma &amp; Grandpa’s the night before Thanksgiving and help make all of the pies for the next day. This Apple Pie was not only a must, but the family favorite – it still is a family favorite and although distance prevents me from joining, my family still gets together the night before Thanksgiving to make these pies with my Grandma.
As I enjoy this pie with my own little family this evening, I will think of my Grandma and how lucky I am to have shared, and still share, in so many memories with her. The most ordinary things really are what’s special about life. Remember to find beauty in the small places, it’s where love lives and and grows.
