Hampden teacher provides comic relief for students during remote learning

Thorndike boy donates money made from snack stand to Shriners Hospital for Children in Boston
BANGOR, Maine (WABI) -For the last five years, a 12-year-old boy from Thorndike has been giving back to the community.Cooper Wren and his family made the trip to Bangor on Friday to give the Anah Shriners a $1,500 check.The money will go to the Shriners Hospital for Children -Boston Burn Unit.Cooper helped run a snack stand at his local race track called Back40MX in Norridgewock.“In a typical summer, the Back40MX has a total of 10 races. The U.S Attorney for Maine says some people in Maine have been handing out cards claiming they are exempt from face mask requirements. The cards, though, are phonies.According to a newly released report , U.S. Attorney Halsey B. Frank says people have been showing these cards that include the Department of Justice seal.This is a federal crime and the fraudulent cards threaten hefty fines.The Department of Justice also is aware of postings or flyers on the internet making the same claims. Bar Harbor Historical Society readies for opening of new museum

Gov. Janet Mills said Wednesday that she will sign an executive order mandating the enforcement of the state’s face covering requirement.The order will require Maine’s large retail stores, lodging establishments, restaurants, and outdoor bars and tasting rooms in Hancock, Waldo, Knox, Lincoln, Sagadahoc, Cumberland and York counties, as well as the cities of Bangor and Brewer and Lewiston and Auburn, to enforce the requirement.Mills said it will be part of the checklist businesses must agree to meet in order to open.The order is being issued because of more people coming to Maine’s coastal...…Gov. Houlton man charged with setting fires at Massachusetts church held on $25K bail
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A Maine man charged with setting fires at a Massachusetts church with a predominantly Black congregation has been held on $25,000 bail.Dushko Vulchev, of Houlton, Maine, was arraigned Tuesday in connection with three fires at the Martin Luther King Jr. Presbyterian Church in Springfield on Dec. 13 and Dec. 15.He is not charged in connection with another more damaging fire at the church on Dec. 28 that made the building unusable.That fire is still under investigation.He pleaded not guilty to six charges, including attempted arson.His lawyer called it a case of...…SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
