Sensodyne maker Haleon to shut factory near Slough with loss of 435 jobs
A colossal 435 jobs are to be axed at Sensodyne toothpaste and Advil painkillers firm Haleon as the group revealed plans to shut its only manufacturing site in the UK. The consumer healthcare group, which was spun out of drugs giant GSK in 2022, is shutting its factory in Maidenhead, Berkshire, which will affect the 435 staff at the site. It is aiming to close the operation on a phased basis over the next two years but stressed that the plans are being consulted on. Police investigating allegations of bribery at Slough Borough Council
At least three property developers have submitted a formal complaint, according to the Evening Standard newspaper. The London newspaper says police have been called to investigate allegations of bribery in applications for property developments. A Slough Borough Council spokesperson said it could not investigate as no individual had been named in the complaint. But said they felt it was best to forward the allegations to the police. Police issue update after man stabbed in early morning attack
On Friday, April 26, the people of Slough woke up to a crime scene where police and forensics were working on collecting evidence. At 4:40am that morning police received reports that a man had been stabbed, with Thames Valley Police making five arrests. Behind a police cordon was a trail of blood, which had been marked out in chalk, around belongings which were strewn across the pavement.
