Yeah. That’s all everyone writes about this time of year. Figures. (me too, I guess? Sort of?) But why do we wait for the new year to begin? Why can’t we be goal-oriented individuals all year long? Would society be any better if that were the case? Is it that we need some type of push to get going? What can I do different this year? How can I make last year shy in comparison to this year? Will I strive to be the best me I can be? Do we need an excuse to get started? Why? Why can’t I just do it because it’s for my own good? What are my excuses? What are your excuses? ...…Yeah. Wake up (too late for breakfast)…binge-watch everything on Netflix…order a delivery pizza…binge-watch everything on Hulu…eat some more…8PM…too late to do anything productive now…scroll mindlessly through Facebook…Like. Share. Comment. Post. Sleep…REPEAT As enticing as a schedule like that may be to maintain, it simply is not ideal. Human beings are purpose-driven creatures. So I’m sitting in the living room with my husband watching a movie because what else is there to do when you’re forced to stay home, right? We chose to watch a Netflix movie called “Set it Up” and it was a pretty good Rom-Com. My husband hates rom-coms, but he was actually laughing with me to his, and my, surprise. Anyway… so there’s a scene in the film in which one of the characters is giving this mushy, heartfelt wedding speech, and she explains how her grandmother told her to “like because and to love despite.” For some reason, that stuck with me. I just finished reading a post on Reddit where an individual had the audacity to write about how they felt teachers do not have a right to complain about their job. I decided to discuss those points here in my post. POINT 1: SALARYThey claim that teachers conveniently leave out the fact that we have summers, weekends, and holidays off; however, they fail to realize the work that is actually put into it.
