Cancellation in the first person
in ,In its forthcoming July/August issue, Commentary features the first-person account of our own Steve Hayward telling the story of his cancellation by the Goldman School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley. Steve’s memoir/essay is As always, Steve wears his learning lightly, but his characteristic humor is absent from this somber and infuriating account. Come for the farcically disgraceful story, stay for Steve’s telling selection of quotes from Goldman School founding dean Aaron Wildavsky. Highly recommended.STEVE adds: Thanks, Scott. Readers—the story isn’t quite over, and I’m not done yet!...…in ,In its forthcoming July/August issue, Commentary features the first-person account of our own Steve Hayward telling the story of his cancellation by the Goldman School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley. Republicans looking to confirm Judge Barrett on or around Oct. 26
in ,reports that Senate Republicans are eyeing a final vote to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court on Monday, October 26 — less than a week from today. That timeline isn’t locked down, but Republicans are planning a rare weekend session that would set up a final vote early next week.My initial take was that Barrett probably wouldn’t be confirmed before the election (and probably not afterwards, either). I thought that Sens. Collins, Murkowski, and Romney would all oppose her confirmation, and that a random GOP Senator or two, with nothing to lose, would join them. I also...…in ,reports that Senate Republicans are eyeing a final vote to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court on Monday, October 26 — less than a week from today. This Year's Hardest-Hitting Ad
inThe Freedom Club of Minnesota (of which I am a member) has put this ad on the airwaves in the Twin Cities. Titled “Make the Left Wing Radicals Stop,” it refers to “the bad people” and ties them to the Democratic Party. Some of the images are specific to Minnesota, but it could be used anywhere. The ad is definitely hard-hitting; is it over the top? You decide:Notice: All comments are subject to moderation. COVID-19: Where We Stand Now
inCOVID-19 is setting records for press hysteria and draconian government action. For the first time in our history–for that matter, human history, as far as I know–the healthy are being quarantined, with catastrophic consequences for hundreds of millions of lives, our health care system, our economy, and much else. For what? Is this year’s coronavirus really a crisis of unprecedented proportions, as we are constantly told? The numbers don’t seem to bear that out. This is a simple bar chart that I have posted several times before, with updated numbers. The bar on the left is the average...…inCOVID-19 is setting records for press hysteria and draconian government action. Joe Biden and the Jews with trembling knees
in , ,Joe Biden, like his mentor Barack Obama, seems to get off on talking tough to Israeli leaders. In this guest post, Stephen Silbiger recalls an early instance of such behavior. He goes on to call out American Jewish leaders for their self-interested disregard of what a Biden administration would mean for Israel and its supporters.Stephen Silbiger was the chief legislative aide to Congressman Stephen J. Solarz of Brooklyn. He also was the lobbyist for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and was the Washington Representative for the American Jewish...…in , ,Joe Biden, like his mentor Barack Obama, seems to get off on talking tough to Israeli leaders.
