Ponoka’s Sharon Schwab honoured by the Community Learning Network
Ponoka Learning Centre’s Sharon Schwab has been honoured by the Community Learning Network for her tireless dedication to local adult learning. Schwab, the centre’s adult learning coordinator, was awarded at the recent Literacy and Learning Symposium in Edmonton. The network has been presenting the Adult Learning Award since 1996. Grand opening celebration of the new Ponoka off-leash dog park coming up

Red Deer-South constituency board urges Premier to forgive regional MLA for offensive remarks
The Red Deer-South Constituency board is calling on Alberta’s United Conservative government to fully welcome Lacombe-Ponoka MLA Jennifer Johnson back into the fold. Johnson was expelled from the UCP’s caucus after making offensive remarks in 2022, comparing transgender children in school to feces in cookie dough. UCP party leader Danielle Smith had said at the time that Johnson could not sit with the caucus, if elected. Ponoka Spring Festival postponed for later this month
Due to current weather conditions, the Town of Ponoka has postponed its new Spring Festival at Lions Centennial Park. Originally set for May 4, the festival has now been moved to May 25. “While we’re pleased with the much-needed moisture that we’ve been getting this week, it is creating wet conditions in the park which have prompted us to postpone the Spring Festival until May 25,” said Andrew Jones, manager of Parks, Recreation and Facilities, in a press release. “By holding the festival later this month, there is a strong possibility that the Splash Park at Lions Centennial Park...… Due to current weather conditions, the Town of Ponoka has postponed its new Spring Festival at Lions Centennial Park.
