Putting it all together: A hockey systems, stats, tools, and talent evaluation primer - Blue Seat Blogs
AnalysisLast summer, I was asked to provide some insight into which stats I use, how I use them, and why I use them. I held off on writing that post until now for a few reasons, most importantly being my personal use of the stats available. This is going to be a very long post about how I use stats, why I use them, and how my use of them evolved over time.First things first, I am not a statistician. For the most part, I do not understand a lot of the stat posts I see that dive into r-squared calculations. I read the first paragraph, I skim through the meat –which is where these posts begin...…AnalysisLast summer, I was asked to provide some insight into which stats I use, how I use them, and why I use them. Rangers recall Dylan Garand - Blue Seat Blogs
PreseasonWith back to back games coming up, the Rangers have recalled goalie Dylan Garand to help give Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick a break before the season starts. Garand is by far the best goalie in the Rangers system right now, and will likely be the starter in Hartford this season.TRANSACTION: The Rangers have recalled goaltender Dylan Garand from the Hartford Wolf Pack.— NY Rangers PR (@NYR_PR) October 3, 2023I highly doubt this recall has anything to do with Quick’s poor preseason. Anything is possible, of course, but I see this as the Rangers wanting an extra goalie and an...…PreseasonWith back to back games coming up, the Rangers have recalled goalie Dylan Garand to help give Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick a break before the season starts. Peter Laviolette's systems: Expect a more aggressive Rangers team in 2023 - Blue Seat Blogs
Coaching•Hockey TacticsPeter Laviolette's systems will hopefully make the Rangers tougher to play against. When Peter Laviolette was hired last spring, Rangers fans (at least on the internet) seemed to let out a collective meh. Narratives of retread persisted, the value of experience debated, and recent past results of former teams were cherry picked to suit whatever opinion you cared to share. New York is a strange market for coaches. There probably hasn’t been a beloved Rangers coach since, I don’t know…Emile Francis.Laviolette probably won’t be beloved here either (though he has started...…Coaching•Hockey TacticsPeter Laviolette's systems will hopefully make the Rangers tougher to play against. When Peter Laviolette was hired last spring, Rangers fans (at least on the internet) seemed to let out a collective meh. Brett Berard, Matthew Robertson, Dylan Garand among Rangers cuts today - Blue Seat Blogs
PreseasonThe NY Rangers cuts today feature a trio of prospects to watch. The Blueshirts cut all three of Brett Berard, Dylan Garand, and Matthew Robertson, plus Adam Edstrom, Brandon Scanlin, and Matt Rempe. Berard, Garand, and Robertson are the closest to the NHL, but all three were never in the running for an NHL spot.Edstrom and Rempe are the other two names to watch, as big kids who can also skate well for their size. They are a long ways away from the NHL, if they ever make it as late round picks. With the Rangers cuts today, the Blueshirts have 27 players left in camp, including Mac...…PreseasonThe NY Rangers cuts today feature a trio of prospects to watch.
