That property in Los Angeles, specifically Brentwood, California was donated in 1888, called the West LA VA. It was nearly 1,000 acres donated in as a deed to the federal government to be a soldiers home. In the 1950’s during the Korean War, over 4,000 veterans called it a home. As of January 2020, Veterans sleep in tents on asphalt. Not one veteran living on the property has a key. Showers are often broken.
