Meaning, don't risk it - get in the water and check the depth for yourself. Lastly, you should be of sound mind (sober). Friends don't let friends cliff-jump drunk. Hart’s Pass Road located in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest was constructed in the late 1800s and is dubbed the highest and most dangerous road in Washington State peaking at around 7,000 feet. It was originally built to gain access to the gold and silver mines in the area. Hart’s Pass is accessible from Forest Service Road 5400 near the Mazama Junction outside of Winthrop, Washington. Not only is Hart's Pass the highest road in the state, but it is also a one-lane dirt and gravel road with steep cliffs and no guard rails. Situated in the Willamette Forest in Central Oregon near the town of Oakridge you’ll find the McCredie Hot Springs. It’s a naturally fed hot spring (130- 160 degrees in some areas) with a number of hand-built hot tub pools that slowly cool for soaking safely. Getting there is a bit tricky and about a half-day drive from Tri-Cities. I found a number of suggestions and sites with step-by-step directions that I will share at the bottom of the article. The hot springs were discovered by a fur trapper in the late 1800s who settled there until 1900.
