Protest turns into hours of chaos, violence in Atlanta
Protesters made their way from downtown Atlanta and into Buckhead late Friday, damaging businesses, looting and leaving behind a path of destruction.Atlanta police officers were joined by other metro law enforcement agencies in trying to thwart the protesters. Atlanta city jail to close, task force will decide its future
Atlanta City Council passed a resolution Monday to create a task force that will make suggestions for repurposing the Atlanta City Detention Center and ending the facility’s role of housing inmates.The resolution, approved 11-1, calls for the task force to evaluate potential uses for the facility located on 254 Peachtree St., where detainees are held for violating city ordinances and minor traffic violations.The task force is also charged with gathering community input and presenting recommended changes to the facility to Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, according to the resolution. ‘Wuhan Plague’ plaques found on Atlanta businesses, streets
Hodgepodge Coffeehouse owner Krystle Rodriguez received a text from her employee about the sign: a round plaque glued to her Moreland Avenue building outside her restaurant depicting Winnie the Pooh eating a bat with chopsticks below the words “Wuhan Plague.”The signs have been popping up around East Atlanta on a variety of buildings and fixtures.
