5.4-magnitude earthquake strikes off coast of Puerto Rico

A 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of southern Puerto Rico Saturday, jolting some residents from their beds and briefly knocking out power.The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake hit near the city of Ponce, in a region where hundreds of homes were destroyed in a January temblor, the Associated Press reported.Ponce Mayor Maria Melendez  several buildings were damaged.There were no immediate reports of casualties, the AP said.Cracks in homes were reported in the town of Guayanilla, where spokesman Danny Hernández said, “Everything shook really hard.”
