A final hug for our dear friendI know that our Saturday morning Pull Up A Chair post is traditionally light and uplifting but I hope you’ll indulge me in a slight departure. I lost my job on January 13, 2009 just 11 days before the inauguration of a president who I and many of us really believed in at the time. It wasn’t a question of performance or a lack of work, it was simply because of some bad investments made by management and a bottoming out of a ridiculously unrealistic supply side economy that forced the company I worked for to make some cut backs. My job got “consolidated” which was their euphemism for downsizing other locations to protect their own little corner. Who knew that cancer research was such a dog eat dog world? At first I wasn’t too worried, though I was very aware of the state of the economy, we had just elected a brand new President and we held a super majority in the Senate and almost had one in the House.
