The impact of the pandemic in the United States has been nothing short of cataclysmic. Last week more than 36 million American workers filed unemployment claims. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the official national unemployment rate has reached almost 15 percent—the highest level since the Great Depression—even though the agency acknowledges that the incidence is much higher.
