5 Must Have Hair Products for Fine Hair

Once upon a time, I had hair so thick and long I could’ve played Rapunzel. I spent summers running around my grandpa’s farm with my butt-length hair twisting around my armpits getting plastered there with sweat. Ahhh, childhood.
Then I had a stylist use thinning shears on me so that I’d have the perfect Jenna-Elfman-circa-Dharma-and-Greg chop and my hair has never been the same.
Babies and hormones and age didn’t help. Trust.
Now my hair is baby fine, thinning (in my eyes) in some places, and just…not what it used to be. I’m truly not sure when the texture of my hair changed, but it did. What was once super, super thick is now very, very…not.
So what does one do when presented with a beauty problem in the age of social media?
Well, I turn to the internet in search of some miracle cures to help plump, style, and salvage my youthful glory days when my hair was so strong I thought it might choke me in my sleep. (Sort of not exaggerating. Long-haired ladies, you know what it’s like to wake up feeling like your hair has come to life to strangle you, right? Right.)
Anyway. Because I’m a giver, I thought I’d take a minute to share my top 5 must have hair products for fine hair. These products cover everything from washing to heat styling and everything in between. Most are available on Amazon, and yes, in full disclosure these links are affiliate links. Shampoo and conditioner is something I learned not to skimp on when I found my first real-deal, non-Great Clips stylist. She explained the importance of using quality products with non-garbage ingredients, and I’ve done my best to adhere to her advice ever since. 
Plus, it makes no sense to spend a good chunk of money having my hair colored only to ruin that work with cheap and terrible-for-me shampoo, you know? 
Prose is my current shampoo of choice and my stylist says it is doing what it says it should, which is grow my hair back in the thin spots.
GUYS. I’m serious. New growth, all over my head, from consistent use of a solid, customized-for-me shampoo and conditioner blend that costs me LESS than my usual salon formula shampoos.
How it works is this: You take a quiz about your hair, its texture, weight, etc., and what you want out of your shampoo: body, volume, wave, growth, et al. 
Prose does its magic and custom blends a shampoo and conditioner just for you. Your name is on the bottle and everything. 
Then you just…use the shampoo and conditioner. Like normal. Easy peasy. 
And the products last for a while, too. I do not wash my hair every day. I try to wash it every other day at most. I’ve had my current bottles for over two months now and they’re still half-full. The price is comparable to salon-quality products, and truthfully, it’s cheaper than some I’ve tried in the past. 
Living Proof Restore Perfecting Spray is the bee’s knees, and definitely gets a spot on my list of must-have hair products. 
This conditioning detangling spray is lightweight and perfect for fine, thin hair. It softens my hair and makes it easy to brush and style without weighing it down. 
Which is, you know, sort of essential when your hair is fine and might go flat at any moment. 
While my hair is damp, I spray my Restore Perfecting Spray all over and then gently brush it through with a Wet brush (which is an honorable mention on this list). The brush and spray take care of any tangles that may be lingering after conditioning, and then I’m ready to style!
This stuff also smells amazing and works wonders in Emma’s hair, too. Better, I believe, than any of the kid-centered detanglers on the market. It doesn’t take much, so even the sample/travel bottles I’ve tried have lasted a while. But, again, I don’t wash my hair every day so YMMV.
OMGGGG! This thing is a dream come true!
I’ll admit that because my hair is shoulder-length and fine, it dries pretty quickly, so it wasn’t that big a deal to dry my hair and then straighten it. 
But why would I do that when the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer &amp; Volumizer can just…do both. At the same time!
I saw a few bloggers I know and love use this in their stories, and I thought “huh, that’s really cool.” But I just…didn’t want to spend the money on one for myself because I had two tools that could do the job of one. 
And then my father-in-law bought it off of my Amazon Wish List for my birthday and it showed up on my doorstep like the beautiful surprise it is and now I’m like “Man, that is ABSOLUTELY worth the $60!”
Sidenote: If you do not keep a running Amazon Wish List of things you want or which you might want to buy for others, go do that. 
Anyway. I can be completely dressed—showered, shaved!, hair washed/dryed/styled, and makeup—in under 30 minutes with this tool in my arsenal. 
Before, I could be ready to go, but my hair was still damp and I was “going natural” which meant my once-upon-a-time waves were drying into frizzy tufts stuck to my head and I was fishing in my purse for a ponytail holder within an hour. Not my best look.
Seriously. If you’ve been on the fence about this tool, go get one.
Because my father-in-law bought me the Revlon One-Step and I loved it so much, I decided that I would treat myself to a 2-in-1 Twist Curling Iron for my birthday.
This 2-in-1 Twist Curling Iron is FIERCE. Difficult to learn at first, yes, but wow, does it make curling my hair super fast. 
Remember—my hair is fine, but there is a lot of it. Curling with a curling iron can take me 20-30 minutes. With the 2-in-1, I’m done in 10.
Why did I buy the knock-off instead of the real deal? Because the real deal is $200 and this was $45. I figured if it didn’t work, I would leave a negative review and send it back, but if it did work, I would have a great tool at a fraction of the price of the real thing. 
I actually kind of look forward to showering and doing my hair now because I can be done so quickly. During a recent trip to Boston for work, I didn’t dread waking up in the morning to get ready for our meetings because I knew doing my hair would be a breeze and the curls would stay all day long.
Remember how I said I don’t wash my hair every day? At most, I wash it every other day?
I usually wash it every 3-4 days, and I’m able to do this thanks to the real MVP, Living Proof Dry Shampoo.
This dry shampoo is clutch for my non-wash days, and it does an absolutely phenomenal job of wicking up the oils without turning my hair gray and leaving behind flakes and residue like so many other dry shampoos.
