Good article. First thing I've seen that talks about algae growth being an unforeseen catalyst in continued glacier melt. It also did well to include real numbers to help quantify the issues and put rising sea levels into a tangible reality.

Well written article by David Shukman. Plenty of supporting evidence, although I wish there were a few more links to those studies. I also had no idea that algae were affecting the surface color of the ice and thus potentially increase the amount of solar radiation it absorbs. More absorption, more melting. All very daunting.
