THIS WEEK, THE TOWN OF REDDING SHUT DOWN ONE OF ITS ROADS BECAUSE IT’S GOTTEN SO BUSY WITH SO MANY TOURISTS AND INSTEAD OF BEING CLOSED FOR JUST WEEKS, IT’S GOING TO BE CLOSED FOR THE REST OF THE MONTH. NBC FIVE’S AMANDA MARTIN-RYAN IS LIVE IN WOODSTOCK TONIGHT WITH MORE ON WHY MANY TOURISTS SAY THEY CAN’T STAY AWAY. AMANDA YEAH, ALICE PEAK FOLIAGE HASN’T EVEN HAPPENED YET IN SOUTHERN VERMONT, BUT WOODSTOCK HAS BEEN BRIMMING WITH PEOPLE FROM ALL ACROSS THE US AND CANADA. TOURISM TRAFFIC OF THIS MAGNITUDE IS ACTUALLY WHAT THE TOWN OF REDDING IS TRYING TO AVOID. AND ESPECIALLY FOR JENNY FARM, ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST PHOTOGRAPHED FARMS. I UNDERSTAND THAT THEY WANT THEIR PRIVACY, BUT IT’S LIKE A FAMOUS PLACE, LEAF PEEPERS TRYING TO SNAP THE PERFECT FOLIAGE SHOT AT JENNY FARM ARE BEING GREETED WITH DOZENS OF PRIVATE PROPERTY AND NO TRESPASSING SIGNS. WE ARE HERE ALREADY AND TEN HOUR DRIVE. SO WE BETTER GO IN AND JUST TAKE A QUICK LOOK, MAYBE TAKE A QUICK PICTURE. THAT’S IT. YEAH. DESPITE ALL THE SIGNS, PEOPLE HAVE CONTINUED TO TRESPASS ON THE PRIVATE PROPERTY AS A SOLUTION. THE TOWN OF REDDING DECIDED JENNY ROAD WILL ONLY BE OPEN FOR LOCAL TRAFFIC THE ENTIRE MONTH OF OCTOBER. BUT ROAD CLOSED SIGNS AREN’T STOPPING OUT OF TOWNERS. WE’VE COME A LONG WAY FROM VIETNAM. WE SPENT THE WHOLE DAY ON THE PLANE JUST YOU WANT TO SEE ACTUALLY NEW ENGLAND IN DURING THE AUTUMN, JUST LIKE SLEEPY HOLLOW FARM IN POMFRET SOCIAL MEDIA HAS INUNDATED JENNY FARM WITH TOURISTS FROM ALL ACROSS THE WORLD. MY FRIEND WHO LIVES IN TAMPA TOLD US ABOUT THIS FARM AND THAT’S WHY WE WANT TO SEE SEE THIS FARM, THE FILM RIGHT? FORREST GUMP, RIGHT. YEAH. THAT’S THAT’S HOW WE KNOW IT. AND DESPITE ALL THE SIGNAGE, SOME TOURISTS ARE EXPRESSING CONFUSION OVER THE ROAD CLOSURE. FOR WHILE ONE SIGN READS NO PICNICKING OR DRONES A DONATION BOX IS ONLY YARDS AWAY. THE OTHER FARM WE TALKED ABOUT THE SLEEPY HOLLOW. THAT ONE IS CLOSED RIGHT AND THIS IS IN THE PUBLIC. HEY, WE’RE CLOSED. DON’T COME. RIGHT. BUT FOR THIS ONE, I DON’T SEE ANY INFORMATION SAYING, HEY, WE’RE CLOSE TO PUBLIC. DON’T COME WHATEVER. RIGHT. BUT IT DOESN’T SEEM LIKE IT STAYS LIKE IT’S CLOSED SPECIFIC MIKE LEE. RIGHT. THE OWNER OF JENNY FARM DIDN’T WANT TO BE ON CAMERA, BUT DID SAY THE ROAD CLOSURE HAS SEEMINGLY HELPED OUT. One Reading road will now be closed til the end of the month.Pomfret is no longer the only Vermont town having to close one of their roads because of the tourists and leaf peepers.This week, the town of Reading decided to shut down one of its roads for the same reason, but instead of being closed for just weeks, it’s closed for the entire month of October. Leaf peepers who tried to snap the perfect foliage shot at Jenne Farm were greeted with dozens of private property and no trespassing signs."We’re here already and it’s a 10-hour drive, so we better go in, maybe take a quick look, take a quick picture, that’s it," said Anthony, a tourist traveling from Toronto. The town of Reading recently decided Jenne Road will only be open for local traffic after tourists continued to trespass onto the farm's private property, despite all the posted signs.Now, even "road closed signs" at both ends of Jenne Road aren't keeping visitors away.Dun Quich, a woman traveling from Vietnam, talked about why she and her friends continued to drive up the road past the sign.“we’ve come a long way from Vietnam, we spent the whole day on the plane, actually wanted to see New England during the autumn," Quich said. Just like Sleepy Hollow Farm in Pomfret, social media has inundated Jenne Farm with tourists from all across the world.Quich actually heard the farm was closed to the public through her friend in Tampa. Some tourists actually expressed confusion the road closure. While one sign reads “no picnicking or drones," a donation box is only yards away."The other farm we talked about, Sleepy Hollow, that one is closed and this is in the public, ‘Hey we’re closed, don’t come,’ but for this one, I don’t see any information saying, ‘Hey, we’re closed to the public, don’t come,'" Anthony said. "It doesn’t seem like it says that it’s closed specifically, so yeah, we just came," added Maggie, who was traveling with Anthony. Though the tourists are still passing through, many understand not to cross the electric wire and respect the owners’ privacy.
