A former North Bay mayor was arrested Saturday amid allegations of child sex abuse.Robert Jacob, who served as the mayor of the town of Sebastopol, is currently in jail in Sonoma County after police were tipped off at the end of last month to alleged sexual assaults involving a minor.The former mayor was charged with five felony counts, including the distribution of child pornography, and a misdemeanor related to sexual assault crimes involving an individual under the age of 16. Jacob is currently being held without bail.According to a statement issued by Sebastopol police, the incidents of alleged sexual abuse took place between December 2019 and March 2021.Sebastopol police chief Kevin Kilgore told SFGATE that one victim — who remains unidentified due to their age — has come forward, but an investigation remains ongoing."It's traumatic for our community, it's traumatic for the survivor of the sexual assault, it's traumatic for everyone and it weighs a toll on our community," Kilgore told .Jacob served in Sebastopol’s city council from 2012 to 2016, and was appointed mayor at the end of 2013. Jacob served a year-long mayoral term, later stepping down from city council in 2016 after a family illness. He was following his successful mayoral campaign.He also is a prominent cannabis advocate and executive, previously serving as the former CEO of Sparc, a Bay Area dispensary service. He currently serves as the head of his own consulting firm, per his LinkedIn.Sparc founder and current CEO Erich Pearson condemned Jacob in a Facebook statement Saturday, calling the allegations “horrible and unconscionable.” He also confirmed to SFGATE that he worked for the company around the same time he served on city council, from July 2012 to March 2016.“These abuses of power have no place in our communities nor our society, and have gone on for far too long,” he said in the statement.Police are asking for anyone with more information to contact Sebastopol police at 707-829-4400.
