Milwaukee Journal SentinelIf you're planning to vote in this year's presidential election and prefer to register online or via mail rather than in person, make sure to take action by Wednesday.&nbsp;After weeks of back and forth over the deadline to register online or by mail as a voter in Wisconsin, that those registration forms must be completed and postmarked by Oct. 14, a week earlier than was allowed in a previous court ruling.&nbsp;If you miss that cutoff, Wisconsin still offers options for registering in person through Oct. 30 or at the polls Nov. 3.Not registered yet? Here's what you should know.&nbsp;All voters must register to vote in the state they live in. If you moved since you last voted, you need to update your registration.&nbsp;If you have voted in previous elections and have not recently moved, you will not need to update your registration and will be able to vote on Election Day or request an absentee ballot.&nbsp;Wisconsinites can register to vote at&nbsp;,&nbsp;by mail, in their municipal&nbsp;clerk's office or at the polls. Those registering will also have to provide their Wisconsin driver's license number, if they have one, or the last four digits of their Social Security number if they don't have a license.The&nbsp;deadline&nbsp;for registering by mail or through&nbsp;myvote.wi.gov&nbsp;is Oct. 14.The deadline for registering in a clerk's office is Oct. 30.Those who&nbsp;miss those deadlines&nbsp;can register at the polls on Election Day.&nbsp;RELATED:If you're planning to vote absentee, make sure your ballot is received by your local municipal clerk by 8 p.m. Election Day. Previously, the court had extended the amount of time that ballots postmarked by Nov. 3 could get to clerks to Nov. 9, but the most recent decision overturned that option.&nbsp;The rulings were overturned, members of the appeals court said, because the date of the election is too near to change the rules now. The court noted it is only willing to change rules this close to an election in very limited circumstances.&nbsp;RELATED:&nbsp;Oct. 20: The practical deadline to request an absentee ballot. The Wisconsin Elections Commission recommends that ballots be requested at least 14 days ahead of Election Day to ensure there is enough time for it to make it to the voter and then back to the clerk. The commission said that on average, ballots will need about seven days in each direction.&nbsp;Oct. 20:&nbsp;In-person absentee voting begins.&nbsp;Each city, village and town in Wisconsin sets its own hours and dates for in-person absentee voting. To find the hours set by your local clerk, visit&nbsp;.Oct. 27: The Elections Commission recommends all voters planning to send their absentee ballot back via the mail send their ballot back by this day, in order for it to make it back to their municipal clerk.
