Albio Sires held off prgressive challenger Hector Oseguera to win the Democratic nomination in New Jersey’s 8th Congressional District.Rep. Sires, the former mayor of West New York, will now aim to win an 8th term in the House of Representatives against attorney Jason Mushnick, who ran for the Republican nomination unopposed.Oseguera, a 32-year-old lawyer and political newcomer challenging Sires from the left, received the endorsement of former presidential candidate Marianne Williamson.Democrat Donald Payne Jr. also fended off primary challengers to win the Democratic nomination and will run for a 5th term in Congress.Incumbent Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman won the Democratic primary in New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District.Her competitor, Lisa McCormick, garnered a lot of attention in the Democratic primary two years ago when she won nearly 40% of the vote against Sen. Bob Menendez. Watson Coleman was endorsed by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in the week prior to the election.Watson Coleman, the first Black woman to represent New Jersey in Congress, will face Old Bridge Councilman Mark Razzoli, who is unopposed for the Republic nomination, in the general election.Rep. Watson Coleman is a member of the House Committees on Appropriations and Homeland Security. She served eight terms in the New Jersey General Assembly before her election to Congress.New Jersey’s lone current Republican Congressman, Christopher Smith, won the nomination to run in the general for a 21st term in Congress out of the 4th District. He easily defeated Alter Richter.State Sen. Tom Kean won the Republic primary for New Jersey’s Seventh Congressional District on Tuesday, beating out Dr. Raafat Barsoom and educator Tom Phillips.Kean Jr. is the son of former New Jersey Gov. Thomas Kean, Sr. Kean will now go on to face Congressman Tom Malinowski, who is running for a 2nd term.Among the uncalled races are the state’s 5th District Democratic primary, where Glen Rock Councilmember Arati Kreibich challenged incumbent Congressman Josh Gottheimer. The incumbent rep led fairly comfortably by late Tuesday night. The Republican nomination in the district is also uncalled, but former investment banker Frank Pallotta had a hefty lead over several challengers late Tuesday.Perhaps the most significant race still uncalled is the Republican nomination for Senate to take on Sen. Cory Booker, who is running for a 2nd term after a failed presidential bid. Hirsh Singh leads Rikin Mehta in a close race, with Singh holding 38.9% of the vote late Tuesday to Mehta’s 38.6% and Patricia Flanagan a distant 3rd with 16.5%.
