Mike DeWine’s administration on Monday issued a new health order indefinitely extending the state’s mass-gathering ban and social-distancing rules for a wide range of businesses.The new order, signed by interim Ohio Department of Health Director Lance Himes, is different from previous state coronavirus orders in that it has no set end date. Rather, the order states that it will remain in force until DeWine lifts the state of emergency in early March.Besides that, the only major change to the latest order alters language so school buildings can reopen this fall for students.The DeWine administration may revise the order if new scientific research comes out or other developments occur, Dan Tierney, a spokesman for the governor, .“We’re in the phase where we have to live with this virus,” Tierney said. “We know that probably we’re going to have to keep up these ‘non-pharmaceutical interventions,’ as they call them.”For weeks, Ohio has banned mass gatherings of more than 10 people, though there are a number of exceptions (such as weddings, funerals, protests and church services, among others).Bars and restaurants are still allowed to have both indoor and outdoor service, though patrons must remain seated while eating and drinking and must remain at least six feet from other groups of people.DeWine’s administration has also set up for a variety of other economic sectors to follow as well, including campgrounds, hair salons and casinos.Coronavirus cases as testing increases and government coronavirus restrictions have been rolled back.
