Olguin would act as a go-between in the estranged relationship but he was also close to her 6-year-old girl.“She wants to know what happened to him but she’s too little to understand,” Song said. “He was like an uncle to her.”She said Olguin played basketball at Northside High School and could often be found playing at Moody Park.A neighbor spotted a fire coming from the dumpster around 6:30 a.m. Saturday and called authorities, police said. Firefighters found his body, which the medical examiner’s office said had a gunshot wound to his head and left hand. Police said in a separate statement that Olguin had stab wounds.How Olguin got there after a night of drinks — ahead of his 25th birthday Tuesday — has befuddled friends and family.Family friend Debbie Martinez has spent the weekend piecing Olguin’s final hours together. He was last seen drinking a beer at the Bombshells on U.S. 290 around midnight, she said. He sent a friend a text message soon after but failed to return home to his mother’s house in the Near Northside neighborhood.Olguin’s mother, Gloria Herrera, who also declined to comment, came to Martinez’s home later on Saturday to say her son was missing. Her calls to him were going unanswered, she said.“I can’t find Joseph,” Martinez recalled Herrera as saying.The two went to the dumpster and found that soles from the man’s shoes had melted onto the pavement. Herrera recognized the soles as matching Olguin’s shoes, Martinez continued.“She broke down,” Martinez said.The car Olguin had been driving — borrowed from a friend — was found in the 7400 block of Cochran Street and towed, Martinez said.Police have not disclosed any information on who may have killed Olguin or how his body came to be at the dumpster.nicole.hensley@chron.com
