She wore face coverings at work in the summer fun program and a number of days she wore a face shield along with a face covering. She also wore gloves, latex gloves,” said Caldwell.Caldwell said she also kept a log of her interactions, which will help the state Health Department conduct contact tracing.The children also wore protective gear.“All of the kids were masked ... All of them were wearing proper protective equipment.” said Dr. Jill Omori, the city’s infectious disease officer.The month-long Summer Fun program began July 1. The Waipahu site has 48 Summer Fun participants.The city said an evaluation by city health officials determined it is safe for the site to continue operations Monday, but authorities warned that could change if more people test positive.The employee is now isolating at home and did not display symptoms while on the job.Caldwell said the employee got tested after her husband learned he was positive for COVID-19. They had no history of travel, and it appears the cases are the result of community spread.“It is unfortunate that one of our city staff has contracted COVID-19 and most importantly we wish them a safe and speedy recovery,” Caldwell said.“This is a prime example of how important it is for everyone to wear their facial coverings, and how this simple act is one of the easiest and most important things we can all do to help slow the spread of COVID-19.”This story will be updated.Copyright 2020 Hawaii News Now.
