NEW!300sharesCLEVELAND, Ohio -- Rose Parlor recently opened in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood at 4461 Lorain Avenue, offering salon services and vintage clothing sales.The business opened on June 12, a few weeks after the coronavirus shutdown was with safety measures in place. It’s owned by hairstylist Kathleen McKinney, known as Kathleen Rose by many of her clients.“People have waited a long time to get their hair done. We’ve been very busy which has been awesome,” McKinney said. “For me, it’s been so satisfying to be spending every day in a space I’ve been dreaming about opening up for years now.”McKinney said she signed the lease for Rose Parlor’s space last September. Before that, she worked as an independent contractor at various salons around Northeast Ohio.Though her plans to open Rose Parlor were interrupted by the pandemic, McKinney said that she used the extra time to get the salon ready for customers and prepare the storefront.Rose Parlor consists of a salon in the back, where she and two other stylists work with clients. The store currently is allowing in six customers at a time, and asks that clients wear face masks while inside.In the front, a boutique sells vintage clothing, hair products, accessories, candles and more. The retail store, McKinney said, focuses on eco-friendly options -- inspired by her own step toward sustainability by thrifting her own clothing.“It became a hobby I really loved. That grew to something I was doing really frequently, and I started buying clothing that wasn’t really in my size but still was in my aesthetic.
