A Milpitas police officer shot and killed a 19-year-old man who allegedly ran at the officer with a knife Sunday afternoon, authorities said.Officers responded shortly before 1 p.m. to a reported stabbing in an apartment on the 130 block of North Temple Drive with initial information that a 19-year-old man had stabbed a 34-year-old man, according to the Milpitas Police Department.An officer arrived on scene within two minutes and saw a man outside the apartment holding “a large kitchen knife,” the department said in a statement on Monday. The officer attempted “numerous times to get the man to drop the knife,” authorities said.The man instead walked away toward an area where a second officer appeared, Milpitas police Sgt. Jason Speckenheuer wrote in the statement.“Suddenly, the man ran quickly at the first officer yelling at the officer, ‘Kill me!’” Speckenheuer wrote. The second officer used a Taser that did not stop the man; the first officer opened fire at the man “who was running towards him while still armed with the knife,” Speckenheuer wrote.Officers applied medical aid until paramedics arrived and the man was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, authorities said.
