"It undermines the work of the Senate in advancing policy, constituent and transparency matters.""To dump this on the crossbench without any consultation isn't just disrespectful, it's just plain stupid," Senator Lambie said. "The government is going to get a nasty shock if they think I'll just roll over and let them stop me from doing my job for Tasmanians."The Greens, One Nation and Senator Lambie will use Senate procedure to delay progress in the upper house until Labor and the Coalition postpone the plan to limit motions and consult with the crossbench.Centre Alliance senator Rex Patrick said he would oppose the motion because "it did appear without consultation... and I fear that if we don't resolve this what will happen is we'll have this sort of disorder propagate through the next sitting weeks."The government's leader in the Senate, Finance Minister Mathias Cormann, said the motion was designed to reform a daily upper house process that had grown tedious.Advertisement"Increasingly over recent years this part of the day has been used and abused for a purpose that it was never intended," Senator Cormann said.Labor also accused the Greens of misusing Senate motions to score political points."The Greens come in here with motions that they know are controversial," Senator Penny Wong said.
