By | and | | Bay Area News GroupBERKELEY — A 19-year-old man was found shot to death late Monday night in the southwest area of the city, authorities said.The man was found at about 11:34 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Dwight Way and Valley Street after someone called police to report a person was lying on the ground bleeding.&nbsp; Paramedics determined he had been shot and he was pronounced dead at the scene.A woman identifying herself as the man’s mother contacted this news organization Wednesday afternoon and identified him as Seth Smith. She said he was a student at Cal.“What we’ve heard so far is that he went for a walk to clear his head from his (residence) on Dwight, and someone walking their dog found him bleeding and called police,” Michelle Rode-Smith, 56, said of her son in an online message. “We are devastated.”Police have not released a possible motive yet and have not announced any arrests.Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call Berkeley police homicide investigators at 510-981-5741.The killing is the third homicide investigated by Berkeley police this year.Check back for updates.We invite you to use our commenting platform to engage in insightful conversations about issues in our community.
