I must say, this is clever. A pointed and, some might say, damming indictment of media self-censorship. As an observer for forty or so years, and in the media game for a roundabout twenty five years years, I can attest to this type of degradation over the decades. This, in the sense of an unwillingness on the part of journalists (reporters rather, as journalist is far too grandiose a term) to upset the apple cart, not even too much, but at all. In doing so they are abrogating to a large degree their solemn responsibility. To hold people (particularly those in authority) and society at-large, to account. This piece reminds me of the following.
"All things must be examined, debated, investigated without exception and without regard for anyone’s feelings.
The Press [press includes newspapers, magazines, books, and so forth] . . . People ask if freedom of the press is advantageous or prejudicial to a state. The answer is not difficult. It is of the greatest importance to conserve this practice in all states founded on liberty. I would even say that the disadvantages of this liberty are so inconsiderable compared to its advantages that this ought to be the common right of the universe, and it is certainly advisable to authorize its practice in all governments".
