According to Metro Police, there have been a lot of rumors circulating online about looting.A large police presence has been reported at various shopping centers around the valley.8 News Now spoke to a few business owners at the Best of the West shopping center who said they learned of protests in the area, however 8 News Now reached out to Metro Police and they denied telling business to board up, furthermore, they have not found any evidence to substantiate the rumor, according to police, these business have taken it upon themselves to board up and close for the weekend.“We are aware of a lot of rumors circulating around online and on social media about looting throughout the city. LVMPD has NOT advised any businesses to board up or close. We will continue to monitor the valley for any criminal activity and will respond accordingly.”Officer Larry Hadfield, Office of Public Information for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police DepartmentThe Best Buy electronics store, which is seen on the second picture, was vandalized in protests last weekend. The center is on the northeast corner of Rainbow Boulevard and Lake Mead Boulevard. Reports indicate that stores including Petsmart and McDonald’s are making preparations as well.“They have a right to protest, but we have a right to shop without feeling scared, right,” Lori Lemaser. “And the businesses, I mean this is horrible for their businesses, if you look, the parking lot is empty, and it shouldn’t be that way.
