Nice science reporting here on what appears to be a bit of a scientific mystery. The Author does a good job of letting the scientists and researchers speak for themselves without interposing her own views. Informative, and the comments, particularly those of a seemingly wildly speculative nature, from those studying the matter make for interesting, even entertaining, reading. Good links provide context and a plethora of further reading for the amateur sleuths among us. Well done and a worthwhile investment of one's time. Four stars!

Great write up about the phenomenon of waves by Mayotte. In depth enough to bring anyone up to speed, not overly complex to require knowledge of jargon, or geology in detail.

Speculation

A very good look at this strange phenomenon and an easy read for any level of reader. I appreciate how author Maya Wei-Haas allowed the people she quoted in the piece to speculate, but also made it perfectly clear that at this stage everything we know about the occurrence is unconfirmed. This is a perfect example of how speculation can make a piece better, so long as it's properly labeled as such.
