It has been a long time since I’ve written much. I think the season of life that I have been walking through the last few years has been more about living in the moment, than having the time and space for contemplation and reflection. As we close out 2023 and begin 2024, I think of all that has come and gone through the year, and years. What you are doing now, is not what you will always be called to do. The seasons change, sometimes in a rhythm and sometimes without rhyme. When we take the time to stop doing the same things over and over again we get to create space for something new. 
At the end of 2022 we welcomed our first baby boy into the world. Becoming parents was a journey filled with lots of changes. We made lots of preparations for our house, car, and schedules. There has been so much joy in becoming a father, and lots of moments of not knowing what exactly to do. Learning through what each new day brings, deciding how to grow, and making the best decisions we can for each situation. I’ve been asked what it’s like being a dad, it’s not easy to describe. I guess it’s mostly giving up your life for someone else, letting go of your plans and what you want, for what this little guy needs at the moment. 
I know that I carry insight, perspective, and  wisdom that can be beneficial for others. I think that’s the main reason I write. I find it difficult to put into words the processes of making decisions and what shapes my perspective on life. The unique upbringing I had plays a central part in the reasonings and ideas I have of life. Coming from a large family, I got to see lots of personalities interact on a daily basis, I got to experience homeschooling and private school first hand. I watched the differences in public school upbringing compared to homeschooling in my younger siblings. And city versus country living from my middle school and high school years. 
I look forward to 2024, not because of anything special, but because I know to be the best father and husband, new and exciting things will need to take place. Growth happens not because we plan for it, but because we continue to feed what is alive. You and I have wonderful stories that are yet to be written, and since we are living, let’s write the very best stories to be read by those who look at our lives. Make 2024 the best year, by living the best life you can, and bring as many people along for the journey as you can. Cheers to a happy new year!
