Nashville TennesseanView CommentsOn Thursday,&nbsp;the state asked&nbsp;the Supreme Court of Tennessee to supersede in the education savings account program lawsuit, hoping to avoid a lengthy appeals process that will impede the state's ability to launch the program.&nbsp;If the high court intervenes and assumes jurisdiction over the case, then the appeals court would be bypassed. A hearing before the appeals court isn't scheduled until Aug. 5, which would "virtually eliminate" the possibility&nbsp;of implementing the ESA during the 2020-2021 school year.&nbsp;Gov. Bill Lee told reporters that state attorneys are continuing to seek a stay, which would allow the ESA program to begin while&nbsp;its appeal of a"What I hope is that low-income children who are zoned for a low-performing school will have access to a high-quality education," Lee said.&nbsp;The governor said more than 2,000 students had applied for the pilot program. Their applications are now stalled, though, after Nashville Chancellor&nbsp;Anne C. Martin ordered the state to stop processing applications and preparing for the ESA to kick-off in the fall.
