In a sweet development, See’s Candies announced it has resumed production of its confections after shutting down amid the coronavirus pandemic.CEO Pat Egan wrote in a letter to customers that the 98-year-old South San Francisco company recently reopened its candy kitchens in the Bay Area and Los Angeles and is providing contact-free pickup at some of its stores.“While this means we are now able to safely make our candies, you can almost say we are starting from scratch,” Egan wrote.Not all varieties will be available immediately, but none is being discontinued, Egan wrote.See’s makes its chocolates in South San Francisco and Los Angeles. Egan’s letter did not specify safety measures being added at the factories. A See’s representative wrote in an email that the company’s reopening is “a process and evolution” and that “safety of our employees and customers are our top priority.”“Therefore, we’re ramping up production at a pace that allows us to ensure these priorities are maintained,” the representative wrote.See’s is also of online orders at some of its 250 stores, including those in South San Francisco, Sunnyvale, San Jose and Petaluma. Egan wrote the process “supports safe social distancing” and will be expanded to “as many locations as possible.”The company’s because of coronavirus concerns was just the second time See’s has ceased production since it opened in 1921 and the first time since World War II.After going without See’s treats on Easter and Mother’s Day, customers expressed their delight on Facebook in response to the company’s announcement.Updated to include drought zones while tracking water shortage status of your area, plus reservoir levels and a list of restrictions for the Bay Area’s largest water districts.“Can not wait to eat your candy again!
