Use Next and Previous buttons to navigateSan Antonio's east side is one of the hottest places in the country for renovation and restoration and is experiencing a boom in both construction and renovation, according to locals in the industry.Nicole Pulley, president of Interior Affairs, an interior design firm based out of Helotes, said 90 percent of her staging jobs are located on the east side – in up-and-coming areas like Denver Heights, Dignowity Hill, Lavaca and Los Angeles Heights."We're redesigning older homes, decorating, doing layout, selecting all new interior fixes, things like flooring, faucets, cabinets – even paint selections," said Pulley. "Then we go in and stage it for sale."Pulley said some of the appeal of the east side is its proximity to downtown San Antonio."What's attracting a lot of people is the urban lifestyle," she said. "Millennials want to get away from giant houses and paying Homeowners Association dues. The allure is easy access to downtown, being able to patronize local stores and restaurants they might not find in suburbia."For many, living so close to downtown can also minimize their work commute, she added.For east San Antonio, this means an uptick in both new construction and renovation of existing older homes.Related:&nbsp;"You can just drive by and see the construction going on at any time," said Pulley.Interior Affairs was founded by Pulley in 2006."My favorite part is taking something old and making it new again," she said.One of her favorite jobs in east San Antonio, back in 2016 when the boom began, was one of the first where she personally did the layout."It was a challenge because it was a single-family home that had been converted to a duplex, and we had to convert it back into a single-family home. It was a two-bedroom, one-bath converted into a three-bedroom, two bath, so we had to add excess square footage to the back," Pulley said.She noted that the home – built in the late 1920s – needed a lot of work and was very dated. "We came up with a layout that had curb appeal and flow on the inside," she said. "As we say in real estate, 'If it doesn't flow, it doesn't go.'"Interior Affairs restored the original wood floors long hidden beneath layers of linoleum, and exposed and whitewashed the original shiplap.
