Quail Hollow is a notoriously difficult track, highlighted by the final three-hole gauntlet dubbed the Green Mile.Last year’s champion, Wyndham Clark, enters the tournament with the third-shortest odds at +1600. It can be taken with a grain of salt however, considering it was a team event with rules well out of the regular PGA parameters. Still, the 35-year-old could use the winning feeling to turn around his sputtering start this year.Outside of New Orleans, Rory has finished better than T19 just once this season (3, Valero Open). But history is on his side at Quail Hollow, and that’s why we like his chances for at least a top-10 finish. The Northern Irishman has won here three times since 2010 by a combined 12 strokes. His last win came in 2021.Wyndham Clark is the reigning champion at Quail Hollow, coming off a staggering -19, four-stroke victory in 2023. On top of that, his current form is in excellent shape, and he has as good of a chance as any American in this tournament.Clark has three top-three finishes in his last five events, most recently a T3 at the RBC Heritage. He’s second in SG: Total and ninth in SG: Putting, both significant metrics at this course. Four of the past five winners here (including Clark) have finished the week top-three in SG: Putting.There’s a lot of pedigree in this trio, particularly at this course. In the last four tournaments here, these three golfers have produced three wins and a second-place finish.Xander Schauffele finished runner-up here last year and is a virtual top-20 machine. He had four in a row before the New Orleans team event (which doesn’t really count).Clark’s recent hot streak was noted above, and Max Homa has won this thing twice in the last four times it’s been played. You could find a much worse way to take a shot at some plump +360 odds.It’s been tough sledding for Viktor Hovland this season coming off a historic year in which he won the Tour Championship. The Norwegian has failed to post a top-10 and has cracked the top-20 just once in six events. His last tournament was the Masters, where he missed the cut after shooting in the 80s in the second round.Matt Fitzpatrick hasn’t been setting the world on fire but is in better form than Hovland lately. Fitz has an average finishing position of 15.2 in his last five events, including a strong fifth-place result at the Players Championship.
