I was recently scrolling through TikTok and came across this video that I wish I had liked or saved. (You know how TikTok is, if you don’t interact with it, it’s gone forever.)
But basically, the TikToker asked her audience what they would do for work if there were no parameters to life. What would you do as a job if you already had millions of dollars saved up, you were set on benefits, the whole nine yards? 
Now this is a question we tend to get a lot growing up. The typical, “what do you want to be when you get older?”
For most of my late teen and early adult life, I wanted to be a radio DJ, and I was lucky enough to accomplish that goal. I lived my dream for almost 10 years. But then I switched career fields and felt myself on that shaky ground of pre-teen Abbey where I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I grew up. The only problem now is that I am a grown-up.
So coming across this lost TikTok, it really made me think about the choices I made to get me where I am now with my stable office job and multiple little side hustles. As I watched that video and ate my lunch, I asked myself the question, “what would you do for work if money were no object?” The answer came to me quicker than I anticipated it would. 
I would make podcasts, and write blog posts. The things that I do for a hobby that I don’t always have time for. I would make that my “work.” 
I am incredibly blessed to be making podcasts for 7 wonderful clients at the time of writing this post. It isn’t at  the point of replacing my full-time income (maybe someday soon) and I truly love that work I do. It’s all the fun of radio without the pressure of performing for a larger company. You get the freedom to say what you want without a boss breathing down your neck demanding metrics from you. I have found so much joy in making shows for my clients, it was a no-brainer that that is what I would do as a career if money weren’t a problem. 
As for the blog posts, I’m not even sure that generating. money off of these things needs to happen. (I wouldn’t be mad if it did!) I just like writing as an outlet and sharing my stories in written form. I just don’t have the time for it in the capacity I would like. Working three jobs cuts into creative time. 
I don’t remember how this lost TikTok wrapped up, but I do know the general message of it stuck with me and I can’t shake it. So much so that I am writing about it now. I can only hope that by my explaining it you also ask yourself these questions, and even maybe take a little action towards the result you desire. I know I am.
