Montgomery AdvertiserView CommentsA Montgomery man&nbsp;charged in federal court with possession and receipt of child pornography pleaded guilty to the crimes Wednesday, previously saying the&nbsp;female dolls, children's underpants, pictures of children in public places&nbsp;and white duct tape found in his bedroom were a part of his "fantasies."Charles Bennett Salter III, 38, was initially charged in 2018 with 10 counts of possession of child pornography in state court after an Alabama Law Enforcement investigators found him distributing over 100 files of children younger than 17 engaged in sexually exploitative conduct.&nbsp;More:The case was then dropped in state court and instead filed in federal court last year.&nbsp;Attorney Sandi Irwin, representing Salter, filed a motion in March indicating her client's desire to change from a not guilty plea to a guilty plea. Salter pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography and the receipt of child pornography charge will be dismissed at sentencing. Salter faces a maximum of 20 years in federal prison where there is no parole, and at least five years up to life supervised probation following his release.&nbsp;Irwin made an oral motion during the hearing to have her client released before the sentencing hearing, citing concerns about coronavirus in jails.&nbsp;Doug Howard,&nbsp;&nbsp;spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office, said&nbsp;Judge Wallace Capel Jr. asked Irwin to submit her request in writing giving prosecutors the opportunity to respond before he reviewed the motion.&nbsp;A December filing ordering Salter to be detained until trial, filed by Judge Jerusha Adams, says that "credible testimony presented at the detention hearing establishes&nbsp;that the defendant used a file sharing program to obtain images and videos containing child pornography on his computer and other electronic devices."The images showed girls between the ages of four and 12, according to the court record.&nbsp;The images were sent to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children which was able to identify over 1,500 photographs with known victims, though police do not believe any of the photographs show victims in the area.&nbsp;As investigators executed a search warrant on Salter's home, they discovered "numerous female dolls, children's underpants, and white duct tape in the defendant's bedroom." Some dolls were child and infant-sized while he did have one adult-sized doll, according to the court record.&nbsp;"One doll had its hands tied behind its back," the order says. "Defendant informed law enforcement that he used the dolls for weightlifting."On Salter's cellphone, law enforcement discovered over 400 images of non-pornographic images of children, taken "at a fast-food restaurant and at a grocery store.""A few of the images depicted two minor females, who were clothed, standing inside of a ladies' restroom as the door was ajar," the record says. "All images appeared to be taken without the knowledge of the minors and were images of the groin, buttocks, or torso of these clothed, minor females."After Salter was read his Miranda warnings, he told investigators that the "images and items located in his bedroom were just part of his 'fantasies.'"&nbsp;Despite the pending charges against him, Salter, who'd been working with a traveling book salesman, participated at a book fair at the Alabama Department of Public Safety in November, according to the order.&nbsp;No sentencing date was set Wednesday, as a pre-sentence report will need to be compiled by a probation officer and reviewed by the defense before it is submitted for examination by the judge.&nbsp;Contact Montgomery Advertiser reporter Kirsten Fiscus at 334-318-1798 or KFiscus@gannett.com.
