                                After 25 years of service as a Fremont County educator, Central Wyoming College (CWC) honors Dr. Jeffrey Hosking with the rank of professor emeritus.Before joining the CWC faculty in 1998, Hosking spent nearly a decade working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. His early law enforcement career revealed an ardent interest in teaching, and he sought out a position that would combine his experience and passion.Hosking applied for an instructor role at CWC from his then-base in Chicago, and made the move site unseen.Since then, Hosking has been a staple of CWC’s criminal justice department. As assistant dean of distance education, Hosking had a hand in deciding how to structure the college’s online learning systems – many years before the covid pandemic normalized such programs. “CWC has long been at the leading edge of distance learning,” said Hosking. “It was an honor to be involved.”According to CWC, Hosking’s efforts within the distance learning program have “paved the way for expanded access to quality education for students across diverse backgrounds and geographic locations.”Throughout Hosking’s CWC career, he’s maintained an emphasis on improving learning opportunities that fit the needs of students in rural Wyoming. He helped establish the Rural Justice Training Center (RJTC), a grant-funded program providing “essential training to rural law enforcement officers.”“With the RJTC, we focussed on officer safety and resiliency over the course of a full career,” Hosking noted. “We’d bring in guest educators and speakers to structure curricula based on staying mentally and physically safe as a first responder.”Though Hosking’s professor emeritus honor marks the end of a quarter decade at CWC, he’s not fully retiring from teaching. “In the future, I hope to remain engaged and teach a class or two – possibly an intro to criminal justice or political science,” he said.As CWC looks ahead, Hosking’s legacy is considered a benchmark of the college’s approach to higher education. “I truly believe Central Wyoming College students come out fully prepared to succeed,” said Hosking. “I’m glad I was a part of that.”Hosking’s professor emeritus distinction will be formally announced during CWC’s commencement ceremonies on May 10 at the Robert A. Peck Arts Center in Riverton.
