                                The annual Wyoming High School Activities Association Art Symposium at the Ford Wyoming Center drew 4,721 art pieces from Wyoming high school students. Of that number, the top two awards went to Riverton High artists.Sophomore Ke’lee Brost was the top winner from all entries, winning the Congressional Award and capturing the 3D Artistic Discovery Award, Best in Show and the Best Overall piece. Following close behind was Kyler Graham who won the First Lady Award with his stained-glass depiction of a bison in the center of the Wyoming State Flag. His work is now on display at the governor’s residence in Cheyenne while Brost’s, and the other students’ work, are on display at the RHS Media Center.In total, art teachers Maci Evans and Traci Wilcox took 70 RHS student pieces to the annual show and came back with a bushel basket full of blue ribbons. From sculpture, mixed media, fused and stained glass, pen and ink drawing, painted pieces and more, RHS entries stood out at the show among all of Wyoming’s high schools.“Most of the students began their individual works this past fall at the start of the school year, but some had started earlier at the end of the last school year,” Evans said. One of those was Brost’s. Her single multiple-piece entry was titled, “The 5 Stages of My Grief.” Each of the pieces featured actual body casts of her head and arms showing the five stages of her emotions after losing her mother to an overdose. “I wanted to help others and let them know they are not alone in the stages of grief. This took me about a year to make,” she explained. “I started it by drawing on plywood with my facial expressions.” She then posed with those expressions, and she was covered in strips of plaster to make the casts. Then came the canvas and the individual expressions popped out of the work.The RHS sophomore said she began thinking about the work during her freshman year, “and as Mrs. Evans and I got closer, I began to trust her more with the idea.” The rest, as they say, is Wyoming Art Symposium and RHS history.Carson Borst said he wanted to show the hard work that farmers do to get food to people in his piece entitled “Farm to Table,” in which a prone steer was pictured with an opening in its side revealing a cheeseburger. &nbsp;Borst lives outside town off Burma Road in an agricultural setting.Hunter Reiman’s said his sculpture “was touched with my religion, with our Lord and Savior represented through bread and wine.” Mallorie Bichel explained of her piece, “Sharks are cool, and that’s why I made ‘Hendrix,&nbsp;the Hammerhead’ glass sculpture.”
