Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, announced Friday that she has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy treatment. In a videotaped statement, the 42-year-old said her abdominal surgery in January was successful but tests after the operation found "cancer had been present.""My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment," she said. "This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family."The princess did not specify what type of cancer she has but asked for "time, space and privacy" while she is treated. Kate had not been seen in public since her surgery until a video surfaced of her and her husband, Prince William, visiting the Windsor Farm Shop, which is near their home in Windsor. Weeks of being out of the public eye led to speculation and gossip about her condition. A photo was released on Mother's Day in the UK in an attempt to stop rumors but news agencies retracted the photo because it had been manipulated. Kate issued an apology the day next saying "like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing.""I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused," she continued. A British privacy watchdog said Wednesday it was looking into a report that staff at the private London hospital where she had abdominal surgery tried to snoop on the Princess of Wales ' medical records. King Charles III said he is “so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did,” according to a statement released by Buckingham Palace. He had remained in the “closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law" in the past weeks.The king was also diagnosed with cancer after he underwent treatment for an enlarged prostate in January. Buckingham Palace did not say what type of cancer the King was diagnosed with but added he "is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible than to his recent hospital procedure.
