                                The wheels lift-off en route to Anchorage this week for the Wisconsin Windigo after they grounded the Janesville Jets in a three-game sweep to open play in the North American Hockey League’s Midwest Division playoffs.Following a two-game sweep at home the weekend prior, things continued in the right direction for the Windigo with a 3-1 road win Friday night in Janesville.It was much the same for Anchorage, who after winning two straight at home over the Minnesota Wilderness, closed out their series Friday in Cloquet, Minn., with a 6-1 win.Both teams now prepare for a best-of-five Midwest Division championship series which gets underway Friday in Anchorage where the Wolverines hold home ice advantage.Games 1 and 2 of the series will be in Anchorage, Friday and Saturday this week. If the Windigo are victorious in at least one of those games, game 3 will be played in Alaska, May 5.If Wisconsin falls in their first two games, the rest of the series would take place in Eagle River at the Dome beginning with game 3, May 10.If necessary, the remainder of the series would take place May 10-12 in Eagle River.The Windigo established their presence from the opening faceoff and earned an early power play because of it.Twenty seconds into the power play, Max Martin cycled low with the puck before moving it to Everett Pietila who in turn passed to Erick Comstock on the point. Meanwhile, Martin drifted into the low slot unnoticed and tipped Comstock’s shot into the net, putting the Windigo up 1-0 just 1:34 into the game.Ten minutes later it was a nifty move from Pietila who went forehand to backhand and deposited the puck behind Jets’ netminder, Matthew Alberti, which made it 2-0.Janesville responded with significant pressure of their own and outshot the Windigo 11 to 10 in the opening frame, but then early&nbsp; in the second Pietila dropped the puck to Will Schumacher who released a shot from the high slot that found its mark on the short side to make it 3-0.With 6:25 remaining in the second, Conner Brown brought the Jets to within two on a power play goal as the home team continued to apply pressure, outshooting the Windigo 8 to 5 across the second, and 9 to 6 in the third.Windigo standout Max Beckford was strong in net, turning away 27 of the 28 shots he faced in the game to pick up the win. Overall the goalie surrendered just three goals in the first round series win.“When he plays like that, we have a chance to win every night,” said coach Blake Hietala of Beckford’s play.For his 1-goal and 2-assist effort, Windigo forward Everett Pietila was named NAHL Robertson Cup second star of the night, for all eight playoff games contested on Friday.Hietala said afterwards he was pleased with his team’s effort Friday, and across all three first round games.“It was great to close out the series in three straight games,” he said. “Our guys were focused and on a mission.
