Phil Murphy's decision to give nonessential businesses the green light for&nbsp;curbside pickup, is one of the first signs that retail in North Jersey is tiptoeing&nbsp;toward a new normal in a post-pandemic world. Nonessential retailers and malls have been shut since March 17.“As the community begins to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 crisis, it’s important that we give our customers a variety of ways to shop the center based on their individual needs,” Jay Daly, the Plaza's senior general manager, said in a statement. "Westfield is committed to ensuring the health and safety of the community, and excited to offer this expanded service in partnership with our retailers.”The state order to shut down nonessential business served a devastating blow to North Jersey's retail sector. Mall parking lots in Paramus, known as the county's retail capital and home to the Plaza, have been largely empty for the past two months. The pandemic also has been hard on department stores, which still make up a large chunk of tenant space&nbsp;inside malls.The new program at Garden State&nbsp;Plaza is an early example of how retail —&nbsp;when the retail sector reopens, experts predict new consumer shopping habits, as well as more vacancies and social distancing policies.NJ reopening plan:What else is opening?:The Plaza's curbside pickup service will begin Thursday&nbsp;and run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.,&nbsp;Monday through Saturday. Hours for restaurants may vary. More information about the curbside program will be available on the mall's website.Plaza officials said customers&nbsp;can shop online,&nbsp;or purchase items by calling participating stores directly, and then arrange&nbsp;with retailers to deliver their purchases to an appointed location inside the mall for pickup.Some participating retailers include: Anthropologie, AT&amp;T, Chick Fil A, Eye to Eye, Fashionable Pets, Ferragamo, Finish Line, Free People, Jerk Shack, LEGO, Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Pandora, Shake Shack, Tiffany &amp; Co, Urban Outfitters&nbsp;and Victoria's Secret.The curbside delivery program at the Plaza is an expanded version of offerings already in place.
