February is maybe my favorite month of the year. Not only is it my birthday month, but it’s also Valentine’s Day. And at my house, Valentine’s Day is about celebrating all of your favorite people. I make handmade Valentine’s for the kids and for friends. I enjoy lots of chocolate treats. And this year I’m celebrating with some of my very favorite girl-friends. I’ve got all the party details to share with you!

Almost all of my friends are crazy for succulents and cactus plants. But I have to be honest, I don’t have the greenest thumb. I try, but it’s just not something I’m great at. So while you could certainly make these succulent gifts with real live succulents or cacti, I’m making mine with some crochet plants.
I picked some super easy shapes for my crochet cactus. A Ball cactus? Well, you essentially crochet a ball. I did one in the continuous rounds, similar to making a hat, and another I made with ribbed row, similarly to how I made my crochet pumpkin.
I also wanted to make some pretty little flower pots for my crochet cactus gifts. These are simple terra cotta clay pots (actually from the same lot that I used to make my Reindeer at Christmas). I spray painted them red (the one on top I taped off so I only painted a portion of it). Then I went back over the top with some gold paint and a paint brush.
Be creative and just have fun with the painting. Since these were for Galentine’s Day I went with red and gold, but you could pick whatever color combination is your favorite. I also think the red and gold looks great with the green crochet plants.
The taller prickly cactus in the middle is made with ribbing like the round cactus on the left is. I worked the ribbing in straight rows, creating a rectangular shaped. Make it as tall and as wide as you want to fit your clay pot. Finish it off and use a long tail to seam your cactus together.
