Roy Cooper could start as early as late next week."If we can get a handle on these clusters, increase testing, and with it increase isolation and contact maybe we can be ready for Phase 2 by the end of the month," Ohl said. "If it stays like it is now there is going to be a lot of things on the phase 2 list that we are not going to be able to do."Ohl said the Piedmont Triad is making progress combatting coronavirus in the region, but he said they're seeing an increase in some counties. Across North Carolina, positive COVID-19 cases grew to 16,507 on Thursday, an uptick of nearly 700 cases since the day prior, and the largest single day growth since the pandemic began.At least 615 people have died from complications with the virus in North Carolina to date.In the Triad, Forsyth County has experienced a surge of cases this week.Sixty new cases were reported by the health department Thursday morning, which followed two consecutive days of 50 new cases each.
