Meh. Take it or leave it. The piece is quite superficial in its examination of the topic and, overly whiny in its tone. I'd even go so far as to say that it grates on the nerves. The treacly appeal to conscience falls flat here. One almost gets the feeling the piece was originally written in all capital letters and toned down later as, well, that's a bit déclassé when writing. The sensationalist and schoolmarmish element may also be off-putting to some. If you enjoy being masochistically yelled at in print then this one is right up your alley. If you would rather not be verbally assaulted and bruised go pour yourself a cup of coffee and take a few minutes to contemplate the impermanence of all things. It will make for a calmer day.
