Neil was born on December 13, 2001. This makes the midfielder 22 years old at the time of writing. Neil also stands at 1.78 metres in height which is five foot 10 inches. 
Like many in the Sunderland team, Neil is local to the area. The midfielder was born in South Shields, Tyneside.&nbsp;
After growing up locally, Neil became a fan of the Black Cats at a young age. He told the Sunderland Echo: “My father and grandad are Sunderland fans. I had season tickets with them from whenever I could go to games, but where I’m actually from, it’s Jarrow, Hebburn, and a lot of my mates are Newcastle fans, most of the lads I went to school with are Newcastle fans. I’m sure I’ll get a few messages off my mates.”
Since coming through Sunderland’s academy, Neil has gone on to become a regular at the club. At the time of writing, the midfielder has made 149 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 10 goals. 
Neil does have social media. The midfielder owns an Instagram account which has 28.1k followers at the time of writing. His account is called _danielneil.
As a result of Neil’s form and Sunderland’s failed promotion hopes, the midfielder has been subject to plenty of interest. In January, Premier League giants Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs were all keen on the 22-year-old.&nbsp;
This saw former Sunderland manager Michael Beale say in the last transfer window that there were ‘a lot of eyes’ on Neil. 
Back in January, as a result of the interest in the midfielder, Carlton Palmer spoke about Sunderland’s position on Neil. He believed that the Black Cats were in a ‘very strong’ position and that Sunderland could demand £10 million to depart ways with Neil.&nbsp;
