Travelers is looking to recruit 800 new employees, with about 500 full-time positions open in technology alone. Mojgan Lefebvre, executive vice president and chief technology &amp; operations officer, said Friday there are opportunities for both recent graduates and experienced workers in the Hartford region. The global insurance company already has its largest employee base in Hartford, with a staff of about 7,000. I can tell you that the COVID-19 situation has brought that even more to light.” She said that a “collaborative mindset” is a requirement to fit the company’s “team-driven approach." Applicants looking for more senior positions should have hands-on experience with software engineering, data science, and/or artificial intelligence, although Lefebvre said hiring was more about an individual’s capabilities than meeting a list of criteria. Advertisement “We look for potential beyond expertise. ... We’re looking for people who are continuous learners,” said Lefebvre. "Technology is a field that is changing so rapidly. If you’re not into making sure you’re always learning and open to that, it wouldn’t truly be the right fit.” Over 477,000 of Connecticut’s 1.9 million person workforce have filed for since mid-March. As of Friday, the company said it has not had to furlough or lay off employees, and has “no plans to reduce staffing levels in response to short-term fluctuations in business volumes.” The open positions are full-time jobs with benefits such as health insurance and retirement plans. However, Lefebvre said if the company came across “some phenomenal talent that wanted some flexibility, we are open to consider that as well.” “I don’t think people necessarily know that an insurance company may be doing things from AI to Blockchain and other [projects]. We want to make sure people understand that technology plays a very critical role in all we do in delivering the Travelers promise,” she said.
