The stars are always out and about in Hollywood, but… Out100 Thursday night’s event in Hollywood was for those on the go. Out Magazine and Out.com This year honored 100 of the most influential and impactful LGBTQ+ people – those who are making a difference. Although much of the anticipation was focused on one person. “I mean, I love Brandi Carlile,” said Daniel Reynolds, editor in chief of Out Magazine. Emily Bielagus and Mara Herbkersman, owners of Hollywood lesbian bar The Ruby Fruit and Out100 Honorees, agreed. “I want to meet Brandi Carlile!” Bielagus shouted. “I’m not going to keep my cool at all.” “We’ve been talking about this for days,” Herbkersman added. Nine-time Grammy Award-winning artist Brandi Carlile was named Icon of the Year for her use of her voice. “It’s hard for me to accept that, but I understand it from the way I see other people. “I know how much I needed my icons and the fact that I might be one for someone or a collective is really wild,” Carlile explained. Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis was named Lawyer of the Year. She used her voice to highlight the courage required to live truly. “Like my beautiful daughter Ruby,” Curtis said from the stage, referring to her trans daughter. “I honor their courage, I honor your courage.” The honorees were divided into six categories: artists, disruptors, educators, trailblazers, innovators and storytellers. In the “Trailblazers” category: Chad Matthews, president of the ABC-owned television networks. He was often a witness to history, and today he is a part of it. “I am incredibly honored and excited to be part of this incredible list, the Out100, with these amazing, amazing people who have done impactful things for our community,” Matthews said. Other honorees from our ABC and Disney family include GMAs Robin Roberts And Gio Benitez And Ray Warrenthe director of multicultural and inclusive solutions on Disney’s advertising team. The award winners were nominated by their community, primarily for completing everyday, meaningful work. This year, in collaboration with our ABC-owned television networks, editors presented the Out100 America. This segment highlights eight notable individuals who have significantly advanced LGBTQ+ rights, advocacy and representation in their local communities. Leslie ‘RevJax’ Jacksona Houston pastor and Out100 honoree, said, “You know, I’ve wanted to go back to church and be part of a church for so many years. I didn’t know where to go.
