There’s still one episode left LokiIt’s becoming increasingly likely that the once embittered brother of Thor, desperate for validation, ruthless and easily bought, the God of Mischief, will become one of the most important characters in the MCU, if not the most important, and save infinitely in the process of people from complete destruction. This is a wild ride for a character who has not only always been secondary, but also antagonistic. Still, it’s not entirely surprising that, much like in the comics, Loki snuck up on audiences and made them love him and constantly demand to see more of him, as if it were an additional secret superpower among his many . Loki’s staying power in the MCU benefited from a number of things, including the appeal of his flawed personality and instincts, Tom Hiddleston’s charismatic screen presence, and the good fortune of landing arguably the best Disney Plus Marvel show of all time. Whether the latter was somehow caused by the previous two factors is difficult to say, but it is undeniable that the creators of Loki seem inspired. Aside from showcasing some of the most exciting stories and storylines in the franchise in a long time, Loki also made sure to spend some time with the characters, their desires, motivations and personal conflicts at every step. It was fascinating to see how a version of Loki, brought out of his lowest moment during the New York Chitauri invasion, grew as much in such a short amount of time as he did when he sacrificed himself Infinity War. A lot of this character development is due to the convenient, condensed summary of his life in the Time Theater scene from Season 1, which we’ll probably reference again in the Season 2 finale, which gave Loki some perspective and a taste of it This is what his future would look like if he continued on the same path. However, the majority of this was thanks to the connections he made at TVA, which only reinforced the vulnerable side of his character that we had seen before, especially in the first Thor Movie. Falling in love with Sylvie gave Loki something bigger than himself to fight for and introduced him to feelings he hadn’t truly experienced before. It made him gentler and more careful. At the same time, Mobius’ trust in him, or as Loki put it in episode five, the way he “saw something in it.” [him] The [he] “I hadn’t seen it in myself,” convinced him that he was more than just anger and revenge, that he could be loyal and virtuous. All it took was for someone to believe they could do it first. Loki has retained the best parts of himself that have always made him attractive as a character. He’s still mischievous and cunning when he wants to, but happiness in chaos has made him a better person. Loki’s greatest fear, as he told Sylvie, has always been loneliness and meaninglessness, and the series has managed to explore this beautifully by, rather than holding him against that, using that need for connection as his greatest motivator for good, or whatever Loki’s version of good is. In Loki, the writers always thought about pausing all the time jumps and multiverse-surfing shenanigans long enough to anchor these important stories in what matters most in storytelling – character and message. It’s without a doubt what sets this project apart within the larger MCU, making Loki the most fully developed, complete, complex (and dare we say, best) character in the franchise. Yes, Loki It’s also all about the plot, but fortunately its writers and directors – Michael Waldron, Kate Herron, Eric Martin, Justin Benson, Aaron Moorhead and more – recognized the great potential of their protagonist and the great talent of their leading man, and so far at least I used them to the maximum. Honestly, as a long-time Loki fan, it was a joy for me to witness.
