A popular restaurant chain has lost two more locations after the company filed for bankruptcy a year ago.Bertucci’s has said goodbye to two of its Massachusetts locations and is now down to just 23 restaurants.According to WickedLocal.com, the Central Square locations in Lexington and Cambridge recently closed their doors.The pizza and Italian chain, headquartered in Northborough, Massachusetts, had grown to nearly 100 locations by the late 2000s.Bertucci’s later ran into financial difficulties, declaring bankruptcy twice in the last five years.The chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April 2018 and was then acquired by Earl Enterprises, Planet Hollywood’s parent company.Bertucci filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy again on December 5, 2022.The company blamed the pandemic and rising inflation for losses in sales and earnings.Several other locations were affected last year, including the sudden closure of New Jersey’s last Berlucci’s in Mount Laurel in June, according to Patch.The restaurant still has a presence in seven states up to the East Coast, including Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware and Maryland.Bertucci’s opened its first location in Somerville, Massachusetts in 1981.Following the company’s financial difficulties and bankruptcy filings, fans have shared their sad thoughts in the dwindling number of spots.Some guests took to Facebook to share their thoughts on the 2022 bankruptcy filing.One person said: “Oh no. I really like Bertucci’s.”Two fans shared their memories of their time at the Italian restaurant.One person said, “Oh no!”The friend replied, “The memories of traveling there during a snowstorm, meeting professional soccer players, and your own round piece of dough.”
